Abstract
Quality function deployment for environment (QFDE) is introduced as an effective eco-design tool to transform the voices of customer and environment into the engineering metrics for evaluating product quality and impact on environment. After the environmentally effect analysis of part characteristics of some important parts, machining process design for environment is added as a new QFDE implementing phase. Design engineers can use the tool to identify which part characteristics and their processes should be focused on and know how to improve the product design to get an eco-design scheme. The proposed method and its application are illustrated through a case study of an engine.
