Abstract :
Highly densified LiTaO3 derived ceramics have been obtained in the LiTaO3-Li2O, LiTaO3-LiMgF3-LiMg(OH)3, LiTaO3 -Li2SiO3 and LiTaO3-CaZrO3 systems. The purpose was to relate the composition and the texture of the ceramic to its pyroelectric properties. All samples investigated showed a ferroelectric-paraelectric transition. The LiTaO 3-type solid solution in the LiTaO3-CaZrO3 system presented a diffuse phase transition resulting from chemical inhomogeneities. The pyroelectric coefficients of polarized ceramics were close to 4 nC-cm-2 K-1, a value which can be increased up to 6 nC-cm-2 K-1 by quick sintering for the calcium and zirconium containing samples
