Abstract :
We are developing a ECG telemonitor using mobile Internet connections for home care service. To achieve that purpose, experiments were conducted to investigate the performance of the telemonitor via mobile Internet connections. The RTP was used on UDP for data transmission. Focus was paid on the packet loss and transmission delay and its fluctuation through the network. Algorithms for error correction and implementation of the telemonitor using RTP are introduced based on these experiments. This paper concludes that a packet size of 100 byte and 5×5 block interleaving are proper choices that achieve about 2 second viewing delay, which is considered an acceptable performance for practical use in telemedicine and telehealth.
