Abstract :
Interoperability among Joint Tactical Edge Networks (JTEN), which typically comprise of independently operated mobile and stationed networks, depend on cooperation to enable direct battle field communications among them. Often, JTEN interoperability is planned well in advance to ensure effective formation of a joint tactical network. In addition, each independent network is managed by its own network management system. This paper focuses on enabling rapid formation of dynamic (ad hoc) joint tactical edge networks by means of auto-configuration, self-organizing among participating network management entities. We propose a framework for dynamically forming and operating joint warfighting networks that leverages TMF´s NGOSS architecture combined with SOA and Net-Centric concepts, and propose a network management collaboration protocol framework that facilitates discovery, engagement and operations activities. We discuss how the protocol framework enables formation of a dynamic, efficient and robust joint warfighting network. The novelty of the proposed approach is that the dynamic formation of the joint network is achieved through network management collaboration activities.
