Abstract
In order to examine the impact of banking M & A on the efficiency of Chinese commercial banks, and so that banking M & A efficiency can be improved under the background of economic globalization, in this paper, an empirical analysis was made about the efficiency of industrial and commercial bank of China (ICBC) M & A, with the method of data envelopment analysis (DEA). Finding: Empirical results showed that, there is always a deterioration of efficiency in the preceding period after M & A, which followed with a period of integration, and then the efficiency was improved rapidly. It verified that the mergers and acquisitions of ICBC are efficient. Commercial banks in China can follow ICBC to expand their business scale, improve banking efficiency, and enforce the strategy of globalization through banking M & A.
