Abstract :
In this paper, a radar based measurement technique for detection of overhead contact lines is introduced. The detection capability of overhead contact lines with the presented DBF radar system is successfully demonstrated by measurements of two metal bars. By using two different angular processing methods it is shown, that the realized DBF radar system enables to measure the position as well as the inclination of overhead contact lines. Thus, the DBF radar offers an ideal sensing technique which can be used for automatic guidance and automatic speed control for trolley-powered vehicles.
