Abstract :
It is very important to acquire the material information from the terrain texture for radar image simulation based on digital terrain. This is traditionally done manually in a special terrain-oriented method. The method faces the problems of bad generalization, great complexity, low efficiency and poor accuracy. This paper proposes a new method of terrain texture segmentation and transformation based on the image segmentation theory. Firstly the terrain texture is segmented with a method based on the color space clustering to get the regional gray level image. Then all regions are processed to generate the corresponding binary images, and at the same time an 8-connected region template is constructed to track and build the edges of these regions automatically. Finally the semiautomatic material marking of these regions with the terrain material database for radar realizes the transformation from the terrain texture to the material information. This method effectively deals with the problem of processing the large-scale terrain texture.
