Abstract
Summary form only given. The keynote focuses on virtual assembly and the main challenges facing the development of applications that meet the expectation of end users, in terms of the realism of interaction, the ease of manipulation and the improvement of task performance. The main aspects that will be discussed concern the physical behavior of virtual parts during their manipulation by the operator during the execution of the assembly task. The research work that will be presented in this talk will focuses on modeling the Physically-based behavior of mechanical parts and subassemblies during the execution of virtual assembly operation. The concept of spring-damper model and its implementation to generate the concept of “visual dynamics” will be presented. The future developments necessary for the creation of realistic virtual assembly operation and planning will be also discussed.
