Abstract
In this paper we develop a novel iterative-least-squares-type method that identifies the population size of direct-sequence CDMA signal mixtures without any knowledge about the signatures of the active spread-spectrum signals in the system or the channel state and in the absence of pilot signaling (training sequence). Simulation studies demonstrate the performance of the proposed method and offer favorable comparisons with corresponding schemes based on the conventional Akaike information criterion, the minimum description length criterion, as well as their more recent modified versions.
