Abstract :
This method has been used during the last four years in the design and construction of 35 recording studios. It proved to be accurate and, besides, it halved the cost of the acoustical treatment. In the first part of the paper, a new criterion for the correct distribution of normal room modes is described. It is based on the resonance modes density curve related to one-thirds of octave. This criterion replaces unsuccessful earlier ones The second part of the paper deals with the analysis of the design of a special device for acoustical absorption, named Standardized Acoustical Panel (S.A.P.). These devices provide accurate acoustical absorp tion and the compensation of the acoustical properties of the rest of the materials used in the room. The computer calculations include the plotting of the reverberation time vs. frequency curve.
