Abstract :
This paper presents a new method for shoreline segmentation. The images are generated by five digital cameras installed on the roof of a building at Boa Via gem beach, Recife, Brazil. The five images are joined creating a mosaic. The proposed method deals with different color systems, removal of details from the background of the image, edge detection by Canny algorithm and a final step for edge removal and restoration. The proposal is applied to a set of images collected from different hours (from morning to night) and different days. Shoreline identification is an important step in the monitoring of coastal areas in order to analyze the effects of erosion.
