Abstract :
The battery´s lifetime continues to be a critical issue in wireless LAN mobile devices. This paper gives an overview on energy-efficient scheduling strategies in IEEE802.11 WLAN, and proposed three improved polling scheme through a careful analysis of the mechanism of PSM (power saving mode) in 802.11 MAC protocol layer. The modified polling schemes can overcome the limitation that the energy consumption cannot reduce efficiently in conditions of the traffic load is heavy when IEEE802.11 works in PMS mode.
