Abstract
Existing symmetric block ciphers are developed with cryptographic complexities in mind rather than the processing capacity of the computing systems in which they are executed. Customized algorithms that can adjust itself according to the nature of the processing resources are the need of the hour. AIDEA is a symmetric block cipher derived from scaled down implementations of the IDEA algorithm. It executes by adjusting itself according to the processing capability of the machine in which it is run. This sort of adaptability is possible with IDEA algorithm because of its flexible characteristics to be compressed or expanded by varying the block length, the key length, total number of rounds, and the bit positions to be shifted for sub-key generation.
