Abstract
We build a numerical model of a mode-locked laser that uses a terahertz optical asymmetric demultiplexer (TOAD) as an optical modulator. The mode-locking process in the laser cavity is theoretically studied. The output pulse width and spectral characteristics under different working conditions are further shown. The laser can be used to generate high-repetition-rate pulses of different wavelength and pulse width by adjusting the offset of the SOA from the loop center in the TOAD, which provides great flexibility for the applications in optical communications and signal processing.
