Abstract
In this paper, a new method is proposed to improve edge detection procedure using negative and gamma correction functions in image segmentation application. The negative image, keeps the edges of the image, and this will be a suitable way for edge detection. This method is based on multiplying the image and it´s negative with performing the gamma correction. Gamma correction is carried out on the histogram distribution of the original image. Using the proposed method, we can detect the right edges and eliminate the false edges of an image. The results show that this method yields a significant improvement in the performance of the edge detection in comparison with traditional methods.
