Multi-valued fields and values in fuzzy querying via FQUERY for access

Abstract :
We present an “add-on” to Microsoft Access (v.2) which makes it possible to use queries involving fuzzy (imprecise) values and relations as well as non-standard aggregation operators (logical connectives). For instance, queries as “find (all) records such that most of the (important) clauses are satisfied (to a degree from [0, 1])” are accommodated. Zadeh´s fuzzy logic based calculus of linguistically quantified propositions and Yager´s OWA operators are employed. Moreover, in addition to the authors´ previous works the use of multi-valued scalar fields and values is provided. It is argued that, first such more general queries may help attain more intelligent database querying, second, that a Windows-based DBMS (e.g, Microsoft Access) is a convenient vehicle to implement such queries, and, third, more general aggregation operators play a considerable role
