Abstract :
The quantum wave packet dynamics of the photodetached electron in electric field near a metal surface are studied in the time domain. The evolution of wave packet for different manifold eigenstates is investigated analytically. It is found that the surface electronic wave packet can be modulated by the laser pulse initial momentum and electric field. In addition, by the many-body GW approximation, we determine the influence of the external field on the surface state lifetimes. This phenomenon is attributed to Stark effect-the shift in energy due to the electric field. With the femtosecond time resolved two-photon photoemission technique, it is possible to directly observe the electronic dynamics of wave packets near the metal surfaces. The correspondence between classical and quantum mechanics is shown explicitly in our model.
