Abstract
The application of residue number systems for the implementation of adaptive digital controllers is presented. Division operations are avoided through the use of iteration to solve for the value of the control. Decoding computations are simplified by the use of a specialized form of the Chinese remainder theorem. Simulation results for adaptive control of a second order system based upon the minimum variance control law and the LMS identification algorithm are presented. This control algorithm may be implemented using only adders and shift registers.
