Abstract :
The authors present an ISDN (integrated services digital network) customer control capability, direct subscription parameter management (DSPM). This capability would enable a user to directly set and later modify values of certain subscription parameters that characterize the services on that access line. This capability would consist of a standard communications protocol on the D-channel and switch based data verification and processing capabilities. Users could use of a range of customer premise equipment (CPE) based applications in conjunction with the network capabilities to perform real-time changes on many of the ISDN subscription parameters. The capability for direct subscription parameter management, in conjunction with the CPE based applications, would provide the ISDN user with the ability to control and make effective use of the extensive flexibility provided by ISDN, while minimizing the need for BOC (Bell Operating Companies) service negotiation interactions
