Abstract :
Today´s cordless and cellular telephones will evolve into personal communicators available to everyone. Wireless terminals will connect people to a host of advanced information services. As yet, the technology necessary to make this vision a reality is not available. Among the most difficult problems is the control of future wireless information networks. The article focuses on a network architecture based on packet transmission and switching. A cellular packet switch allocates control functions to dozens of interface units that collectively perform network management tasks that would overwhelm a centralized controller
