Abstract :
The United States Army Aviation community is expanding its battlefield situational awareness. In doing so, they have expressed a need to conduct joint operations by exchanging Army Battle Command Systems (ABCS) information and select messages from the Link 16 network, which will "greatly enhance attack and reconnaissance operations." This expanded representation of the battlefield allows Army Aviation platforms to obtain data on Air Force platforms within their area of operations, as well as provide Air Force platforms the Army\´s air and ground forces picture. The enabling technology for exchanging Link 16 and ABCS data is a software package that transforms XML messages between Link 16 sources and the ABCS Publish and Subscribe Services (PASS). The software, in conjunction with existing hardware, allows for the exchange of information without adding equipment to Army Aviation platforms.
