Abstract :
Urban expansion is always an important element of the urban issue. And the remote sensing technology is a powerful tool in extraction of urban areas and analysis of urban expansion. In this study ETM+ images are used to detect the land use change of the urban and urban fringe areas in Hangzhou. The directional flow and driving forces of the urban expansion are then analyzed to study its urbanization. The result shows a high expanding speed of urban area and diversified constructions in Hangzhou during the past decade.
