Abstract :
The wave equation modeling technique described previously, ICASSP 1980, is extended for application to low frequency, short distance shallow water modeling by including a direct wave, shallow water profiles, larger receiver to transmitter offsets and arbitrary transducer depth locations. Water and below bottom characteristics are assumed to vary vertically and a point source field is decomposed spectrally and into plane waves. Propagation modes are observed in magnitude-phase frequency-angle color displays and in the received array autocorrelations. Modeling of surface multiples requires inclusion of depths significantly below the ocean bottom. Applications to velocity filtering and array gain computation are illustrated.
