Abstract :
Abstract-This paper aims studying the dynamic spatial expansion process of Kunshan based on Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS). For the purpose of comprehensive analysis and programming on urban sprawl, we discussed the vital driving forces from the perspective of spatial development. The conlusions indicates that: (1) From 2001 to 2010, Kunshan was expanding at fast pace and strong intensity. The gap between central city and towns dimmed, while the connection between them became stronger. (2) The compactness of urban built-up area reduced gradually and the epitaxial type dominates urban expansion, which also aroused environmental problems. (3) Factors such as total export and GDP had a major impact on the urbanization process. Great attentions have to be paid to these factors in the future urban constructions.
