Abstract :
This paper presents a comparative analysis of noise reduction techniques devised for front-end amplifiers (FEAs). Feedforward noise cancellation, signal-nulled noise feedback and current reuse techniques are briefly explained, analyzed, and compared. In order to gauge the effectiveness of the noise reduction technique in conjunction with power consumption, a noise efficiency factor (NEF) is used to analyze and compare the noise-power trade-off of different techniques reported. The analysis shows that the noise reduction technique based on the simple current reuse scheme provides the best noise-power trade-off, which is verified through circuit simulations.
