Abstract :
Conductors based on silver sheathed (BiPb)2Sr2 Ca2Cu3Ox, (BSCCO-2223) are enabling commercialization of high temperature superconducting (HTS) wires. HTS power transmission cables are now being deployed in field demonstrations worldwide. Warm dielectric (WD) and cold dielectric coaxial (CDC) cable designs offer opportunities for compact high power cables in applications that cannot be served by conventional copper cables. Utilities and cable manufacturers are recognizing the potential of this technology and are responding with demonstration installations. By 2003, six major demonstrations are scheduled to be in operation (or completed) in five countries
