Abstract :
Purchasing and importing electricity from neighbor countries (or systems), has several benefits such as reduced network losses, reduced energy not served (ENS) criteria, possibility to export power to other systems, and probably the most important one is its contribution to supplying the load without increasing generation capacity. To improve reliability of the network by interconnecting systems, the interconnection agreement must be matched in a way that recovers the ENS; which may be caused by unit outages due to maintenance, forced outages of units, or a peak load which is greater than the generation capacity. There are many items in contract agreements that influence the reliability indices; available energy and capacity for sides, available time (i.e. season), financial terms, tie lines capacity, the reliability of the generation units of the source, who sells the energy, are examples of these items.
