Abstract :
The high speed homopolar machine (HSHM) is investigated as a conceptual high speed electrical machine in pursuit of higher power-densities within a rated power range of up to 100 kW and speeds of up to 100000 rpm. The HSHM´s topology is complex and essentially a 3D task. However, a simplified dimensioning methodology is developed and implemented for the investigation. Feasible ratings typical for the HSHM are established and their limitations discussed
