Abstract :
This study aims to investigate the dependence of the probe performance and mechanical flexibility of carbon nanofiber (CNF) probes on the growth direction and size using ion irradiated CNFs. The nanofibers are characterized using atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Results show a very narrow growth-direction distribution for CNFs grown close to the normal direction and it broadened for CNFs grown in the oblique direction.
