  • Abstract
The second edition of this book contains five new chapters introducing renewable energy, wind, solar, energy storage, and the smart grid. In addition, the second edition uses MATLAB to recalculate and check the accuracy of the valuable and informative examples provided throughout. The text is an excellent text for a five-credit hour course at an engineering school. Additionally, the typical utility/industrial engineer would benefit from consulting this book. Dr. G??nen\´s use of stepby-step examples throughout the text is beneficial to understanding the material. However, not seen is a strong connection between the second edition of Electrical Machines and MATLAB as highlighted in the book\´s title. The preface states that the end-of-chapter problems have been recalculated "using MATLAB." It is assumed that the calculations were not wrong in the first edition. Additionally, the method of calculation is not as important as the correct results. For those interested in MATLAB, the MATLAB script is provided for several of the example problems.
