Abstract :
On May 24, 2000, the islanded system mode test of Kii-channel HVDC Link (bipolar, 1400 MW) and Tachibana-bay unit 1 (cross-compound, coal-fired, 1050 MW) was performed during its commissioning tests. Both the HVDC system and the generator continued to operate stably during islanded system mode. About 20 minutes later, the system was connected to the AC system again by re-closing the circuit breaker that was hand-tripped, and the system was restored. This paper presents the results of the islanded system mode test. The performance of some functions implemented to be able to operate in the islanded system mode was verified. The torsional vibration observed on the turbine-shaft was in stability, the contribution to the damping of SSDC was verified. Frequency of the islanded system was maintained at 60.0 Hz for 20 minutes owing to the frequency controller
