Abstract
This paper discusses the use of sectorised antenna array receivers for the reverse links of cellular code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. A simple formula for estimating the array gain in the presence of CDMA interference is presented. The effect of spatial diversity on the bit error ratio (BER) performance of the receiver is also discussed. Finally, the capacity of a CDMA system employing antenna arrays is estimated, based on a Gaussian interference approximation
