Abstract :
The Workstation-based Iconic Script Editor (WISE), an experimental prototype system that was motivated by the need for software tools to support flexible applications that can be modified in the field by a knowledgeable nonprogrammer, is presented. An example of the use of WISE is given. The architecture of WISE is described, and it is shown how it can be used to support a user´s higher-level tasks and goals in a direct manner
