Abstract :
The Pulsed Electro-Acoustic (PEA) method has been used for the measurement of space charge distribution in solid dielectric films or cable shape samples. However, the PEA system for cable shape samples had a curved surface electrode, which had the same radius curve to the outer radius of the sample cable. Therefore, if we measure cables of various radii, it is necessary to make the curved surface electrode which fits with each outer radius of various cables. In the newly developed system, we succeed in reducing the noise level and increasing the sensitivity. This improvement makes it possible to use the flat shape electrode. Using this new system, we can apply the PEA method to any size of cable. Using this system, space charge distribution in cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables with various radii were measured. In this report, the examples of measurement results and comparison between the ordinary and improved system are presented
