Abstract :
Asymmetry in the EHV power systems is caused mainly by the two following reasons: a variance of parameters in the separate phases or an appearance of a nonthree-phase network element. A paradigm of the nowadays operational practice dictates to ignore reasons of the first kind and disconnect the parts where the reasons of the second kind appear. The alternative approach to the asymmetry treatment assumes that in both cases there might be found a solution, which allows correcting the unbalanced conditions and continuing the operation instead of the interruption. Practical usage of unbalanced network conditions can significantly improve the reliability, effectiveness, and quality of power. The method of the optimal network control under unbalanced conditions, which includes correction measures to compensate unsymmetrical parameters, is proposed. The method is based on the gradient optimization with nonlinear power flow constraints. The examples, which include planning and real-time operation stages, illustrate the implementation of this method
