Abstract
A field test program was initiated by EPRI in 1980 to evaluate the performance of 69-kV outdoor insulators manufactured with polymer concrete formulated by EPRI for electrical insulation. The purpose of the test program was to compare and contrast insulator shapes and coatings, and to compare them to porcelain insulation. The performance of the insulators under test has been satisfactory, since no electrical or mechanical failures have been detected. However, after nine years of exposure to different environmental conditions, some insulators representing particular combinations of shape and coating have shown degradation in heavily polluted areas
