Abstract
The wavenumber of the EHD (electrohydrodynamic) interfacial instability and its viscosity dependence are discussed. A quantitative expression for the EHD wavenumber for transient unipolar injection is derived and verified experimentally by using a specially designed test cell. It is shown that the wavenumber varies not only as η-2/3 , but also as the electric field, the injection strength of space charges at the injector, the permittivity and mass density of the liquid, and the electrode separation. The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical prediction
