Abstract
The use of multimedia and artificial intelligence technologies to increase the effectiveness and enjoyment of using computer-based training systems is examined. As examples, two prototype systems, Role´m and MrFixit, which are currently under development are described. The Role´m system is for systems engineering students and MrFixit is for training airline mechanics. The authoring issues common to both systems are discussed
