Abstract :
The purpose of reactive power planning is to provide an acceptable voltage profile and to maintain generators´ reactive limits. A method is developed using a security performance index and an optimization technique. The proposed combined technique finds an optimal solution for a practical size power system by reducing the set of equations to be solved. The method is applied to a realistic 116-bus system and satisfactory results were obtained
