Abstract :
The Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) concept is rapidly becoming established as the telecommunications architecture of the future. While ISDN has largely been the domain of standards organizations until recently, ISDN trials and equipment are now in a state of rapid development. Yet the ultimate users of ISDN, both military and others, have by and large been non-participants in this process. Viewed from a military perspective, ISDN promises to solve some long-term problems in the telecommunications arena, although a multitude of practical considerations remain to be worked out. The military must insure its special requirements are taken into account if these promises are to become a reality.
