Abstract :
A historical review of the status of selection in machine vision is followed by some thoughts about the contributions of hardware and software architectures to the field. The ideas of parallel computation and encapsulated visual modules is captured in a suggested architecture. An example system shows that Bayes nets offer a mechanism to support selective perception. Finally, some related research issues are suggested
