Abstract :
This paper describes a procedure for decoupler design using a nonlinear optimization algorithm. The theory of the interaction measure and the minimal order of a decoupler which serves as a basis to design processes are reviewed and pertinent results are highlighted. A practical design procedure leading to an approximate decoupler which is non-unique and always exists is outlined. The procedure is illustrated by a design example using a multivariable plant with severe interaction. Simulation results on the dynamics responses of the open loop plant and closed loop systems are also given
