Abstract :
We consider a methodology for the design of an application driven, configurable parallel architecture (ADCONPA) based on a fiber-optic LAN. This new architecture utilizes the highly promising fiber-optic technology and the real-time tunable laser and diode technologies. The virtual topology of the ADCONPA is the connectivity that represents the way a station´s transmitters and receivers are tuned to different bands of the optical fiber. A methodology for the design of the ADCONPA is presented. The design problems for the ADCONPA such as topology realization and routing are formally proposed and solved using the technique of genetic algorithms. The results obtained are encouraging in the sense that they are near optimal. Finally observations with the genetic algorithm are discussed and continuing efforts in this area are outlined
