Abstract
At 12:58 on 10 March 2011, a destructive Ms 5.8 earthquake hit Yingjiang county, Yunnan Province. 25 people were killed and three thousand houses collapsed. Seismological researchers are thinking why a medium earthquake like this could cause such serious damage. We study and compare the geological backgrounds and building structures of several worldwide earthquakes recently, and try to find the cause of the serious damage by the Yingjiang earthquake, and finally we hope to propose the corresponding solution about earthquake disaster prevention and reduction.
