Abstract
A hybrid transfer mode (HTM) broadband ISDN (integrated services digital network) is presented. It is a high-speed integrated services digital packet-switching communication network. It can provide users within a unified network with multiple services based on different performances and capabilities. The SONET (synchronous optical network) signal standards are chosen as the link-rate and frame format structure. STM (synchronous transfer mode) and ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) are adopted not only to guarantee the transmitting quality for both delay- (as well as jitter-) sensitive signals and loss-sensitive signals but also to increase the network resource utilization efficiency
