Abstract :
For the realization of fibre distributed networks and the supply of electronic approach facilities, uninterruptible power supply systems (UPS) are required. Normally the assemblies of approach facilities are located inside of an outdoor cabinet (KVz). For these assemblies in the outdoor enclosure very strong environmental requirements must be considered. The most sensitive part concerning the climatic conditions is the battery which is placed in the base of the KVz. The battery is an important component of the UPS function and should ensure the supply of the complete system without stopping in case of an interrupted mains line. Without additional climatic measures there are no acceptable values for lifetime and availability within reach. The study includes the creation of hard- and software for a long-term multichannel registration of environmental parameters. Both of them form the foundation for a long term study to register the realistic course of temperature inside and around of a KVz and the analysis of the measurement results. Through the integration of an arrangement for climated batteries in the continuous long term study experience about the costs and benefits of batteries under climated environment conditions should be picked up. In order to increase the lifetime and the availability of batteries inside the KVz and to estimate the additional costs, research is performed
