Abstract
We have developed a continuous in vivo meconium monitor for intrapartum use in order to provide new insight in the study of the pathophysiology of meconium passage. Meconium is measured using an optical sensor placed at the tip of an intrauterine probe. Measurements of meconium are made at intervals of one minute and plotted on a cardiotocograph-like chart. The accuracy is of ±33% and the linearity better than 95%. The amount of blood in the amniotic fluid is also monitored.
