Abstract :
Described is a new method employing psychrometric principles for determining total insensible water loss from premature infants. The method, based on the concept of mass conservation, requires only simple measurements of relative humidity and temperature and thus lends itself well to the role of a clinical technique. Presented is a brief mathematical analysis of the method along with results obtained from in vitro and in vivo comparisons of the new method to the weight-loss method used in the past.
