Abstract :
This paper presents design and simulation results of a S-bend waveguide delay line used as passive phase shifter. The design dimensions in the range of micrometers paves way for fabrication in integrated optics domain. A switched phase delay configuration is employed for the phase shifter. A phase shift in the range of 0° to 180° are obtained. Differential path lengths between Straight waveguides and curved waveguides in Ti: LiNbO3 give differential phase shifts. Ti diffused lithium niobate waveguides are employed since they are less lossy and have good electro-optic properties for switching. The results show the feasibility of implementation of such a phase shifter using Ti:LiNbO3 waveguides. Optical phase shifters find applications for beam steering, radar phase control, base station antenna control for mobile applications. Beam Propagation Method (BPM) and Matlab is employed for modeling and analysis.
