Abstract
A new partial studio model for teaching undergraduate heat and mass transfer is described. Students are exposed to modern numerical algorithms and visualization techniques while learning the fundamental principles of heat transfer in an interactive PC-based classroom setting. As part of this project seven software modules were developed for numerical simulations of fundamental heat transfer and fluids processes. The modules combined the ease and attractiveness of Visual Basic user-interfaces with the power and speed of Fortran numerical routines. Color-contour and other visualization schemes were generated from Fortran using the common Windows 16-bit graphics functions
